Hot Tip #2

Always use two chocks to chock tires. For safe arrest, the chocks resistant force MUST exceed the force exerted by the vehicle.

This can be determined given:

  • Tire size
  • Percent grade
  • Road surface conditions
  • Gross vehicle weight (GVW)

*For this example:Our HWG Super Gripper was used.

  • Tire Size: 22.5r
  • Percent Grade: 30 %
  • GVW: 80,000 lbs.

Although we test our chocks against the SAE J348 wheel chock standard, the more reasonable goal is to meet or exceed the parking brake standard for that vehicle.
