Velocity Equations

Why is it important that your chocks not slip?

Question:  What is the velocity of a truck on a 30% grade after a distance of .2 meters?

Answer:  The velocity after a distance of .2 meters, not accounting for the coefficient of friction, is approximately 3 feet per second.

X - Xo = d = Vot + ½at2
V = Vo + 2 a d
V = O + 2 a d
d V = 2 ( g sin o ) d
V = 2 ( 9.8 x 0.287 ) .2
V = 1.126
V = 1.06 m/s
1.06 m/s = 3 ft./sec.

3 mg o
d = .2 m
10 g = 9.8 m/s
O = tan ( 3/10 ) = tan (.3)
tan (.3) = 16.6992
sin O = .28734
a = g sin O
mg sin O = ma
